All hot water systems should have a service between 4 and 5 years, having the anode changes in standard hot water systems, stainless steel hot water systems do not have anodes and the pressure temperature valve and cold water expansion valve replaced. These valves are safety valves that protect the tank from the expansion and pressure build up when your hot water system is heating

Not replacing these valves can cause the tank to “pop”, this is when the pressure builds up and the tanks dome is forced to change shape under the pressure. This can be extremely dangerous with the power and water connections. It has even been shown on the TV show Myth busters. Imagine the pressure that builds up to blow a steel tank out of shape like this
